Tanya Haynes

Director of Practice

I am both a Founder and the Director of The Blue Door Practice. I manage the clinical team and take an overview of all new clients referred to the practice.

I am an expert in relationships; I work with adult individuals, couples and families in all forms. I initially trained as a Counselling Psychologist and went on to specialise as a Systemic Psychotherapist.

I consider that in order for therapy to be successful it must be based upon the relationship between the therapist and client, and I always offer an initial assessment to mutually explore the possibilities of working together. My position as a therapist, which is both interactive and transparent, is based on co-creating a collaborative and respectful relationship between therapist and client. I am also directive in my approach and offer both advice and my expertise to my clients.

As a Relationship Therapist, I help couples to strengthen and develop their relationship and overcome challenges together, but I also have particular experience of dealing with ‘couples in trouble’ with specific emphasis on the impact of marital stress/divorce proceedings. I run a specialist clinic to help parents going through separation to prioritise the needs of children in the process.

Over many years now I have developed an international practice. In particular, I have worked intensively with families and individuals in India and the United States. I have developed home treatment packages for individuals, families and couples who wanted more intensive therapy and intervention in crisis.

Whilst I now work mainly in the adult field of psychology, I have a wealth of experience of working with children and young adults and often offer consultation and assessment of challenging situations.

I began my career in the NHS in 1995 where I worked in Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health. After many years as a senior clinician, I left to concentrate on my private practice and consultation. I developed a thriving private practice and always dreamt of creating a multi-disciplinary team of clinical excellence – and it was from this work that The Blue Door Practice originated.

I am now responsible for the overall vision for the practice and the wonderful community of clients, clinicians and referrers we have created.

As well as my clinical work as a therapist, I provide consultation to other professionals, organisational relationship systems, systemic group work and training. I am also in the final stages of training as a Relational Life Therapy (RLT) therapist to add to my Couple Therapy skills. I am still involved in consultation and training in education and have been a Governor at two leading prep schools.
