Poppy Mellor

Psychosexual and Relationship Psychotherapist

I am a psychosexual and relationship psychotherapist with a particular focus on sexual and relational matters including differences in desire, loss of intimacy, sexless relationships, communication issues and healing after an affair, as well as more specialised work addressing both male and female sexual disorders.

My approach is to put the clients at the centre of the therapy. I place huge importance on working in an empathetic direct manner in the room to help clients clarify the underlying or unconscious issues that may be stopping them from resolving the problem. This therapeutic perspective is collaborative and maintains the importance of the couple relationship. It is an opportunity to have an informed understanding of the complex individual processes and experiences that each bring so that they can take the next steps with a more contextualised understanding of each other. The sessions are dynamic and explorative and are designed to engage the curiosity of the couple.

I have been in private practice since 2008 and am a visiting lecturer on the Psychosexual training at the Tavistock since 2011. I also supervise students and practising therapists and have worked with various NHS Psychosexual Clinics. I trained as a therapist after leaving a 10 year career in banking and the media.
