Janine Tooker

Integrative Psychotherapist

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist working privately and within the charity sector. I gained my clinical experience through the NHS. I work with anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, and issues including; family and romantic relationships, sex and sexuality and identity, culture and self-esteem.

Whatever the reason for accessing therapy, I focus on the unique individual at the centre of the work. I help clients explore how and where they have learned the coping mechanisms that are starting to falter, whilst using the therapeutic relationship to highlight how clients have learned to maladaptively relate to others and themselves and how this manifests in psychological and psychosomatic distress.

Through bringing awareness to this, I helps clients process the complicated feelings that arise along the way and eventually learn healthy, happy and hopeful ways of living. I see a strong and trusting relationship between the client and therapist as an essential foundation for the therapeutic work. I am warm, directive and encouraging and whilst therapy can be emotionally painful, I believe it should be a place of lightness and celebration and invite clients to be just as they are, in that moment, each week. I integrate Psychodynamic, Humanistic approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychoeducation, Mindfulness and Attachment Theory.
