Jane Brinson

Head of Referrals and Integrative Child Psychotherapist

At the centre of my work is developing a trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients. Built on a foundation of empathy, acceptance and curiosity, I work with clients to develop their existing strengths and work on the areas of life where they feel they are struggling. My integrative background means that I adapt my approach to meet each person’s unique needs and particular challenges. Together we may explore how thoughts, feelings and behaviours are impacting on day to day life, or use creative arts to explore their inner world.

I work with children, adolescents and young adults. This may be in individual sessions or joint work with their parents or carers. I also offer support to parents to deepen their understanding of – and relationship with – their child.

I have extensive experience working therapeutically across the education and voluntary sectors. I began my career as a teacher, specialising in working with children with social, emotional and learning difficulties before training to be a psychotherapist. I have worked therapeutically in primary and secondary schools, with young adults moving to university and the world of work, and with children at risk of exclusion. I run a multi-family group for parents and their children to support those struggling to get the most out of school.

I also specialise in working with families after adoption and with young people who have been exposed to early life trauma. I am a Theraplay Informed Practitioner and influenced by the model of Developmental Dyadic Psychotherapy in my joint work with children and their parents/carers.

Alongside my clinical work at The Blue Door Practice, I manage new referrals to the practice and support operational management and service development.
