Dr Matthew Berry
Clinical and Counselling Psychologist
I am a Counselling and Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families. My therapeutic approach is grounded in humanistic, strength-based counselling and Emotion-Focused Therapy. While I primarily work with individuals, I also involve partners and family wherever possible to create wrap-around support and stronger outcomes.
For more than two decades I have specialised in the treatment of addiction and in the assessment and coaching of neurodiverse adults, particularly those with autism/Asperger’s and ADHD. My work is firmly neuroaffirmative — recognising strengths, unique processing styles, and needs, while helping to reduce barriers and build sustainable strategies for growth, well-being, and self-acceptance. I also have extensive experience working with LGBT populations, where issues of identity, belonging, and resilience are central.
Alongside my clinical practice, I bring a strong academic and training background. For 24 years I have lectured in addiction counselling at university level, and I regularly deliver international training for psychologists and allied health professionals on autism in adulthood, addiction, well-being, motivational interviewing, and clinical supervision. I am an accredited psychology supervisor and supervisor trainer with AHPRA in Australia, and continue to provide consultancy to government bodies on strengths-based approaches and policy development.
Trained in both the UK and Australia, I combine international experience with a deep commitment to creating safe, collaborative spaces where neurodiverse and LGBT individuals alike can be understood, empowered, and supported to thrive
