Dr Kate Younger

Chartered / Practitioner Clinical Psychologist; Cognitive Analytic Therapist; EMDR Therapist

Using a primarily Cognitive Analytical Therapy framework, I am very interested in the whole life journey. In particular, understanding the impact of our early life attachments and trauma/s (across the lifespan), and how these develop blueprints for how we may relate unhealthily with ourselves and others in the here and now.

I have a genuine interest in understanding someone’s presenting difficulties, and sharing my understanding as transparently and simply as possible in order to help them feel less overwhelmed. Armed with this shared understanding, I then offer strategies to move things forward in a healthier, more sustainable direction. I also explore how challenging formative and/or traumatic experiences may inform the development of mental health conditions. As well as my CAT work, I incorporate CBT principles and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy, where appropriate and/or needed. I offer both time-limited and extended therapies.

I have developed this approach in my work with couples and offer single session/day-long workshops to help where there are disconnections and misunderstandings of what each partner is contributing to an unhealthy dynamic. Again, I will give strategies and interventions to help the couple shift the blocking and/or unhealthy patterns.

I grew up and initially completed my psychology qualifications in Australia. I then moved to the UK and completed further training to obtain qualifications in the UK. I worked in the NHS for several years, before making the move to the private sector.
