Alex Haynes

Counsellor and Coach

I am primarily informed by existential and relational approaches and my work draws on the research-led advances in the fields of interpersonal neurobiology and neuroscience. I collaborate with clients to explore the challenging circumstances they find themselves in, allowing space for painful life events to be experienced safely and without preconception or judgement. Through this work I hope clients will discover a greater sense of agency and meaning, finding more freedom to make decisions.

I am interested in the ways childhood can leave a lasting impact on how we view and respond to our adult relationships. However, I don’t see therapy as something that is constantly looking backwards and prefer to keep the significance of past events in balance with what it means to be living in the present moment.

In my couples counselling practice, I explore each individual’s unique experiences within the partnership, being curious about what that means for their connection with one another and working with the challenging patterns that have hindered progress in the relationship.

I am currently completing a couples training in Relational Life Therapy (RLT), which provides an avant-garde approach to taking on the hard work of fostering emotional connection, enhancing communication, and creating lasting change within relationships.

In addition to my counselling practice, I also offer personal and professional coaching. I work with coaching clients to develop more clarity over their situation and a deeper appreciation of the internal resources that allow for meaningful change and new solutions to emerge.

I came to my therapy training following a diverse career in the NHS. As a senior manager, I worked extensively with executive teams across a range of organisations and regional structures. I have worked therapeutically for several years with inpatients and outpatients in a private hospital setting.
